Community Forum to Address Teen Suicide
On December 15th, at the CEED building, located at 1400 N. FM 1788 at 6:30 p.m. BCA Permian Basin in collaboration with UTPB will host a seminar, regarding depression amongst children and teens. In the wake of traumatic events during the past couple of months, and as the leading behavioral hospital located in the Permian Basin, it is of paramount importance that community members receive information regarding warning signs, access to care, treatment options, and coping skills for those who have been deeply affected, or parents concerned about their child’s wellbeing.
The panel will consist of Dr. Roddy Strobel, the foremost expert in the Permian Basin regarding Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; Charisse Rook, RN, Director of Admissions and Program Director of Children’s Services and John Sikes, LPC, Child Therapist. Panelists will share valuable information regarding the signs and symptoms of suicidal ideation, effective responses, and services available in our community.
By bringing the community together during this difficult time, and trying to de-mystify common perceptions surrounding childhood and adolescent depression, BCA Permian Basin hopes to help as many people as possible by hosting an open community forum. As a behavioral healthcare provider, we want to share our clinical experience and do what we can to prevent one of the most serious challenges facing the youth in our community today.
